Dr. Burns is a graduate of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Burns received his Fellowship specialty training in Oncology/Hematology from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Burns is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, in Oncology and in Hematology.

His positions of leadership include Chief of Medicine, Medical Director, New Beginnings and Chief of Pharmacy and Therapeutics at Doctors Hospital.

Dr. Burns is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncologists, American Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association. He has been awarded the Charles Newton Duncan Memorial Award from the General Hospital of Lakewood and Academic Instructor of the Year at Tri-City Hospital in Dallas.

Dr. Burns is on staff at a number of local hospitals.
